Data Quality and Access

Most satellite data distribution platforms do not provide harmonized analysis-ready data. Various errors and uncertainties affect their accuracy and reliability. For instance, poor cloud filtration hinders the information in the image. Also, a one-time purchase and analysis of satellite data might not be sufficient - Need for frequency and actuality of data and automation of its analysis.

Analysis Methods

A vast number of approaches for deriving valuable information from satellite data is necessary for effective research, including machine learning, advanced statistics, trend analysis, phenology extraction, and others. Similarly, there are hundreds of spectral indices - each with different benefits and limitations. However, the optimal spectral index or their fusion for a given use case is rarely selected.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

Even certain robust research projects based on ground-truth data lack the bigger picture of the view from above. Narrow-sighted research often misses a lot of complex reality. Profound consortia require interdisciplinary collaboration among experts in Earth sciences, remote sensing, computational and data science and terrain experts.
